THE Colour Lab in Prahran is rallying to help Koala Kids bring some joy to families who will spend Christmas Day at one of Victoria’s children’s cancer centres.

Hampers are being packaged to be delivered to families at the Royal Children’s Hospital’s new Kookaburra Ward, Monash Medical Centre and the Peter Mac Cancer Centre.

Carols by Candlelight - Saturday 3 December 2011

Bring the family along with a picnic tea or purchase a low cost Christmas dinner complete with plum pudding and celebrate Christmas with a FREE evening of carols and entertainment under the stars. The night gets underway at 4pm with a free children's fairground courtesy of FTG Holden, free art and craft activities for children, roving performers, face painting followed by an exciting line-up of guest artists, national choirs, an appearance by Father Christmas and the magical fireworks show.

Wantirna South teacher's brush with royalty

AN award-winning Wantirna South preschool teacher has told of her once-in-a-lifetime invitation to meet the Queen.

Knoxfield Preschool teacher Gisella Benetti attended a reception with the Queen and Prince Philip at Government House on October 26, but didn’t get to chat to Her Majesty.

“I got to within six feet of her, but it was protocol to stand where we were, and the Queen approached who she wanted to talk to,” she said.

STATE ELECTION: Labor spruiks education and jobs boost

CITY students in year 9 will be sent to the bush to learn leadership, community service and bushfire awareness skills if Labor is re-elected.

A new subject – designed to build resilience and independence by taking teenagers out of the classroom – is one of the election promises made by Labor leader John Brumby at today’s campaign launch in Bendigo.

Mr Brumby pledged to spend $208.2 million on the Education for Life- Year 9 Experience program, which would be part of the curriculum for one term at all state schools.
